The story of an outstanding partnership!
AUTMHQ UPDATES Hola and Hello! We have exciting news! Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ) is proud to share a little bit about our outstanding partnership with BigCommerce and how we are reshaping the tech industry. BigCommerce partnered with AUTMHQ to provide funding, career opportunities, and volunteers. This collaboration will place BigCommerce employees as volunteer facilitators with AUTMHQ, add entry, mid, and senior-level roles to the AUTMHQ job board, align AUTMHQ cohorts with BigCommerce in-demand jobs, as well as launch apprenticeships. AUTMHQ has previously hosted very successful Horizons and Day in the Life events with BigCommerce personnel. "BigCommerce is a huge proponent of representation, so participating in Horizons by AUTMHQ was a no-brainer," said Isa White, Programming Director at AUTMHQ. "We are proud to have a partnership with BigCommerce because encourage employees with nontraditional backgrounds to tell their stories to generate more interest from those who have the skills but typically wouldn’t have applied. Now that they see someone in the company they can relate to, AUTMites are more confident in being successful in their desired career." To continue achieving AUTMHQ's mission of reshaping the tech industry and generating new job opportunities in tech for the Black and Hispanic communities, we need more partnerships like this one. Become an AUTMHQ partner. Come join the movement! Paty Sesma Vice President of Marketing and Communications at AUTMHQ

Tech jobs: Men are still most likely to get interviews, says report
By Liam Tung, Contributor
When trying to fill tech jobs last year, more than one in three (36.7%) companies sent interview requests only to male candidates, according to research by Hired.
The tech industry has long struggled with issues of diversity: more than nine in 10 software developers worldwide are men. Hired said there had actually been a "significant decrease" in the percentage of positions that sent interview requests exclusively to male candidates during the past year – in 2020, that figure was 42.4%, although this year's data shows there is still significant work to do.
"This is progress, but means nearly 40% of roles are not requesting interviews with female candidates at all," it notes.

‘Accessibility is a journey’: A DEI expert on disability rights
Employers can wait for a worker to request reasonable accommodation under the ADA, but Kelly Hermann asks: Why not be accommodating from the start?
As HR professionals dig into the accessibility aspect of DEI, potholes abound. “Accessibility is one of those terms that engenders a lot of anxiety for folks,” Kelly Hermann told HR Dive. “They’re like, ‘I don’t want to do it wrong. I don’t want to be seen as the person who is going to kick the person in the wheelchair or, you know, be discriminatory,’” she recalled.
As VP of access, diversity and inclusion for the University of Phoenix, Hermann addresses campus accessibility concerns. She shows up for students with disabilities, as well as faculty and staff. As Hermann and her department educates community members on how to show up for their colleagues and course-takers, they seek to assuage worry with one key reminder: Accessibility is a journey.
