Giving Tuesday is right around the corner!
AUTMHQ UPDATES
Hola and Hello!
The team at Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ) has been working tirelessly to ensure that all upcoming events are flawless and that you have a memorable experience. It is important that you RSVP as soon as possible so that the craziness of the season does not catch up with you and you miss out on these networking opportunities.
And, since AUTMHQ is a 501c3 non-profit that works WITH and FOR the community, this is a good time to talk about giving, as Giving Tuesday is approaching. I'm sure you've heard that true happiness comes from giving. Doing good for others nurtures trust and a sense of protection in our communities. It also helps us in seeing others with empathy. This is important for a thriving society, which promotes and expects overall well-being. Kindness is about being aware of other people's needs and feelings and taking action. So, on Giving Tuesday, please plan to support our AUTMites. As the Dalai Lama says it: "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." This link contains stories that will compel you to get involved in their lives and a strong advocate for their futures. We promise that you will make this Thanksgiving season more meaningful.? Gracias and Thank you!

WORLDWIDE EVENTS
Let's get ready to give back ?? on Giving Tuesday!
This year, we invite you to join us on November 29 for the worldwide giving movement called GivingTuesday. GivingTuesday is an annual global day of giving that takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This special day inspires people across more than 150 countries to engage, volunteer, or donate to the causes they care about most.
At Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ), we believe that giving back to the local community helps create a more equitable and prosperous environment for all. Our work relies on the generosity and passion of the people in our community who take action for good by donating and volunteering with us. Save the date for GivingTuesday to support Central Texas nonprofits like ours.

‘Layoffs are a fact of life.’ So what makes Twitter’s so uniquely cruel?
2022’s cruelest layoff
Elon Musk’s goodbye to the hordes of Twitter employees he laid off late last week was never going to be “warm and fuzzy,” according to Protocol’s Issie Lapowsky and Lizzy Lawrence. But between the timing, the scale, the lack of communication leading up to the cuts, and Musk’s failure to address the layoffs publicly as they were happening, the mass dismissal “smacked of a particular kind of vengeance.”

Schools aren't feeding the tech pipeline
The education system misses advertising tech as a career path, said delegates at the Women in IT Every year, thousands of new people enter the workforce, but only a minority pursue careers in tech - and only a minority of those are women.
Although coding is now taught in schools and some students might be lucky enough to learn what a developer does, we're far from having solved the challenge of the tech pipeline. Demand is rising at an ever-increasing rate, but supply is largely static, and we can't simply wait for a critical mass of potential new coders to build up.
Female tech professionals at the first day of the Women in Technology Festival last week said schools are missing out on advertising technology as a career path.
Responding to a question by session host Bronwyn Boyle, CISO of Mambu, one woman gave the example of a friend who works at a grammar school: "It's a technology school, massively strong in the sciences, and about 90% of her cohort want to be lawyers or doctors, because that's what their families suggest that they do.

What the tech industry wants at COP27
Big Tech has played an increasingly pivotal role at international climate talks.
It’s once again climate conference season. Negotiators are set to descend on Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, for international climate talks known as COP27. [...] “The tech sector exists to see around the bend,” Jamie Beck Alexander, the director of Drawdown Labs, told Protocol. “Given this foresight, industry leaders know that we will all one day soon wake up and realize that we have to make impossibly hard changes in our economy on impossible time horizons.”
